Meet Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van, a former student of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST - Taiwan Tech), and her inspirational story: "Step out of your comfort zone to discover yourself and the world around.”

Van graduated from Foreign Trade University - Ho Chi Minh City (FTU - HCM) and has more than six years of experience working at HSBC Bank, part of HSBC Group - one of the largest financial groups in the world. As a person who never stops learning, Van continues to challenge herself by self-studying outside of class to take the top international certifications in the finance industry such as "Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder" from the CFA Institute, United States. Ky.

After that, she decided to go to a new land - Taiwan to gain experience working abroad and improve her Chinese language skills. She was honored to receive a scholarship from the Taiwan Ministry of Education (MOE) to study a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Taiwan Tech. After graduating, Van worked at Cathay Bank, part of Cathay Group, Taiwan's largest financial group.

In November 2021, she continued to receive another prestigious scholarship to study for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) - Finance major at Texas Christian University (TCU), Texas, USA. This fall, she begins another trip on her journey to discover herself and her world.

At Taiwan Tech, in addition to completing her studies well, Van also actively participates in union activities of Vietnamese students and international friends:

  • Although she has to complete more subjects with more credits than other majors, she is still very proactive in scientific research such as participating in reports at the international conference "Business Models Research Center for Asian Silicon Valley". She was also invited to present at the conference "ASIALICS CONFERENCE 2019".
  • The leaders of the co-founders established the English Club "Speak Out Loud" for Vietnamese students at Taiwan Tech with the purpose of improving members' confidence and ability to communicate in foreign languages;
  • Together with other international students, they won third prize in the national team competition "Taiwan in My Eyes" sponsored by the fund "CTCI Education Foundation (CTCI EF), Taiwan"
  • Volunteer at the Asia Pacific conference “Learning Innovation for Future Leaders”;
  • MC for the Vietnamese Cultural Festival performance night, won third prize in Taiwan Tech's Chinese singing competition, participated in piano performances, and marathons organized by the Taiwan Tech alumni association.

With her outstanding achievements, Van received the title of Outstanding Student of Taiwan Tech in 2017 and was nominated as an honorary member of the Phi Tau Phi Academic Association. After receiving these titles, Van has inspired a lot of striving for Vietnamese students at Taiwan Tech.

When asked why Van decided to study for an MBA in the United States even though she graduated with an MBA in Taiwan, Van answered that she always wants to explore new cultures and continuously improve her knowledge to develop. self. The MBA program at TCU is designed differently from Taiwan Tech. At TCU, students can delve deeper into an additional major, and Van chose Finance, a field that she has always loved.

Van shared that the opportunity to study and work in Taiwan has helped Van have a more complete view of the overall picture of the Asian economy, especially East Asia and Southeast Asia. On this beautiful pearl island, Van has also continuously improved her third language skills - Chinese. Van thinks that at the present time, she needs to go further, step out of her comfort zone to explore new lands and new cultures.

TCU's MBA program is ranked 32nd worldwide by the Wall Street Journal/Time Higher Education. The faculty quality category "Faculty Quality" is ranked No. 1 worldwide according to The Economist. The program also creates many conditions for students to participate in real projects; For example: consulting opportunities for the world's leading corporations (Nike, Boeing, Pepsico, etc.), or participating in the investment management process of Education Investment Fund, the oldest educational investment fund in the world.
