After completing the program, many of you probably don't want to leave Taiwan even though you haven't decided to continue studying or have a job. In recent years, Taiwan has allowed foreigners to stay in Taiwan for a free period of time after graduation. If you haven't found a job yet, you can also extend your residence card (ARC) to stay in Taiwan to look for work or enjoy some free time. You can apply for an extension twice, each for six months. After graduation, the school will notify the immigration authorities and your ARC is only valid for 30 days. Therefore, you need to extend your ARC if you want to stay in Taiwan for a longer period of time.

Documents to prepare (for reference): Photo card, Passport, ARC, Diploma (original and copy), house rental contract (original and copy, if your name is not on the contract, then Must include a letter confirming your residence there signed by the person whose name is on the contract), application fee.

During this period, you cannot work. If you are found to be working without a permit, you may be fined from 30,000 NTD to 150,000 NTD and you cannot enter Taiwan for the next 3 years. Once you find a job and receive a work permit, you also need to change your ARC within 15 days. You can also continue your (NHI) insurance at a district office or NHI office. In addition, when you change your residential address, you also need to update it on ARC within 15 days after moving to the new place.
